afternoon flights to Bocas del Toro suspended

In an act of unimaginable planning intelligence, the Panamanian Aviation Authority has decided the 2009/2010 high season would be a good moment to start work on the Bocas Del Toro airport runway.

The direct consequence is that afternoon flights have been suspended from December 20 to January 22 and perhaps into the beginning of February.

To the large frustration of Bocas-hotel owners, we are now (January 15) supposedly 3 weeks into the work to improve the runway but work has not even started yet!

Many of our guests like to spend a few days in Bocas del Toro so please take this into account in order to avoid disrupted travel plans or no-shows. You have been warned!

If you had previously booked an afternoon flight to Bocas, make sure to confirm with the airline (AirPanama or Aeroperlas) the time by phone. If you need assistance contacting them, you can email us the flight information at reservations@thebalboainn.com and we will confirm it for you.

Of course, there are alternatives. You can take a bus from the Albrook Terminal to Almirante, 8-9 hours, and from Almirante a water taxi to Isla Colon. However, for some the bus ride can be a bit difficult so keep that in mind. Alternatively, you can book a flight to Changuinola then take a bus to Almirante and a water taxi to Isla Colon.
