Our Bed & Breakfast

The Balboa Inn offers nine nicely furnished rooms. All rooms have a private bathroom with a great shower and quality European faucets, all kept spotless by our dedicated staff. The rooms also offer plenty of natural light, good ventilation, a quiet split air conditioning, ceiling fans, (wireless) Internet access, room safes and comfortable beds, not to mention a TV with DVD and SkyTV satellite service.

Adding a special and distinct touch, a local Panamanian artist has decorated each room with beautiful murals.  Comfortable beds and mattresses imported from Europe assure a good night’s sleep.

Breakfast is served on a garden surrounded terrace. Instead of traffic you will hear the sounds of birds, maybe see some ‘neques’ (Agouti’s) and on occasion a family of toucans as there are in the trees everywhere. This area is our most popular spot both in the morning as well as the afternoon.  Guests have frequenty told us they saw more birds at the Balboa Inn then anywhere else during their trip in Panama.

A common area has a TV, a small library and seating area.

We have 3 double rooms (1 queen bed), 5 triple rooms (queen + twin bed) and a quadruple room (4 twins).  For our European readers: a twin fits one person.

Of course, a good Bed & Breakfast is nothing without a great staff to provide you an excellent experience.  You will find the multi-lingual, multi-national team at the Balboa Inn friendly, helpful and ready to assist you with anything you need to have an enjoyable and smooth stay, assure a great breakfast and very clean rooms.

Update: July 2011:

New managers at the Balboa Inn
Saskia Swartz, a former KLM flight attendant and her husband Thorwald Westmaas started the Balboa Inn in 2008 to address the need for affordable yet quality accommodation in the Panama Canal area managed by friendly and helpful staff. Having worked for this fine Dutch airline for over 11 years, Mrs. Swartz knows what good service ‘looks like’ and is uniquely qualified to manage a hospitality business.

But, affter 6 years in Panama and 3 years of building a great B&B, Saskia and her husband and co-owner Thorwald Westmaas decided to return to the Netherlands to give their 3 kids (9, 9 and 11 years) access to better education and a more European upbringing.

Of course, they could not have left without finding new manager for the Balboa Inn who would continue the tradition of providing great service and care.   Luckily they did with Simon & Rosie. Here they present themselves.

We are a couple from England, Rosie from Newcastle and Simon from London. Having spent 10 years working in the service industry in Florida we decided to move to Central America. The original plan was to look at Costa Rica but a good friend advised us to visit Panama, which is probably the best tip we have ever had. Two years ago we arrived and managed a small beach Hotel near Santa Catalina where we enjoyed our time, made lots of friends and fell in love with the hospitality business. In March this year we made another move, this time to Panama City and The Balboa Inn.

We first came across Balboa Inn on our arrival into Panama, with our beloved dog Duster, as the Balboa Inn is a pet friendly hotel. We were given a very warm welcome by Mieke & Bill, the previous managers, and have since became very good friends . When Bill & Mieke retired we were very happy to have the opportunity to be the new managers and continue the good service.

We have enjoyed meeting the guests from all countries, many of whom have become friends and we maintain regular contact with. There are a wide variety of birds and wild animals in the garden, which all of our guests find fascinating.

The Inn is very quiet and most of our guests treat it as a home away from home. It is in a very convenient location for access to the bridge of the Americas and close to the city and the attractions of the old quarter etc.

We enjoy what we are doing we hope that this reflects on the personal attention that we give to everyone who stays here. We have only been at the Balboa Inn for a short time, but have fallen in love with the city and would like to express that there is so much to do and learn here.

So, what are you waiting for? Come and see us and share the joy of all that this beautiful country has to offer.
